Comments

This discussion between Koki and Yuika is a rather interesting case of how minimal responses function in a discourse. Because of her few and short responses, Yuika’s MLRs are 7.1, (average) and her speaking rate (due to her short sentences) is rather high 127.1, but the interaction is completely unbalanced with Koki having 394 words to Yuika’s 106. Nonetheless, the conversation is lively and both participants are engaged. As for acoustic dysfluency, there is a high overall rate of silence 63.1 seconds, or 11.4% silence. Both speakers have a high rate of silence, 17.4 for Koki and 27.9 for Yuika. Lexical dysfluency is minimal. Syntactic dsyfluency is mixed, with a high rate of repetition for Koki, 43 occurrences, and high rate of meaningless syllables for Koki as well, (56). In short, by watching the video one can easily missed the amount of minimal responses, and the high rate of silence. Yuika should try harder to simply say more in her next interactions, but at least both participants enjoyed themselves.
