This engaging discussion between Shunichiro and Yuika shows the problem of minimal responses: while Shunichiro has a MLR of 10.0, Yuika’s is only 4.0. But in looking over the transcript, one can see that it is rare for both participants to express more than one sentence. This does somewhat present a false impression of fluency, as it is easy to quickly say your ideas in one sentence, and so Shunichiro’s speaking rate is 130.5 compared to Yuika’s 45.9. The acoustic dysfluency is rather high, with Yuika having 27.9 seconds of silence compared to Shunichiro’s 43.2, and the overall percentage of silence is high 11.3% (representing 82 seconds). Nonetheless, lexical disfluency is low, but Shunichiro does have a high rate of repetition, and meaningless syllables (78) in regard to syntactic dysfluency. Again, we see the males dominating the females in regard to production: Shunichiro expressed 454 words to Yuika’s 187. So, again, it should be said that Yuika [and Shunichiro as well] should try harder to simply say more in their next interactions, but at least both participants enjoyed themselves.
